1945 Art Houtteman Detroit Tigers World Championship Ring

1945 Art Houtteman Detroit Tigers World Championship Ring

Though he was all of 17 years of age, World War II and pitching injuries conspired to see Art Houtteman signed by the Detroit Tigers and appear in 13 games during the 1945 season. That Detroit team went on to capture the American League Championship as well as the World Series, and offered here is a very rare championship ring, which was cherished and worn by Houtteman. It shows wear and the condition is about 5/10, the inside is stamped 10K and engraved "Presented to Arthur J. Houtteman by Baseball Commissioner," though some of the engraving is worn. The top of ring has a real diamond with the wording "Detroit Tigers World Champions" around the edge, on one shank is the initials "AJH" along with crossed bats and a ball and on the other is a silver globe with flag on top - this side is very worn. Still it is difficult to find a keepsake of this magnitude in any condition. Houtteman would go on to play 12 seasons, and was an All-Star in 1950.
