In 1943, Charlie Chaplain's relationship with Joan Barry and the question of her child's paternity roused Hollywood gossip columnists and became the celebrity scandal of the decade. Here are (56) news service and wire photos from 1943 to 1945 that capture every moment from Chaplain's trial on charges he violated the Mann Act to the paternity suit filed by Barry's mother. The majority of the images are of Joan Barry and her infant daughter Carol Ann. The wire reports are a fascinating read and the quality of the photographs are first-rate. Sized from 5.5 x 7" to 8 x 12" the photos range in condition from VG to MT with many on the better end of that range. News service photos have caption sheets still attached or affixed to verso.
