1946 Boston Red Sox World Series Game 3 Full Proof Ticket

1946 Boston Red Sox World Series Game 3 Full Proof Ticket

Addendum: (6/13/2023, 9:30am ET) This ticket is a proof ticket and not the actual ticket for the game.

For Major League Baseball and for America, the 1946 season was an attempt to get back to normalcy. Hundreds of Major Leaguers served in the military during World War II, and while some big leaguers returned to Major League play before the end of the war, most returned at the tail end of the 1945 season, or in time for the 1946 schedule. Thus, the 1946 World Series was a joyous time for baseball fans as the Boston Red Sox met the St. Louis Cardinals. Displayed is a full, unused ticket to Game 3 of the '46 World Series, a game held at Boston's Fenway Park before 34,500 fans. The teams split the first two games in St. Louis and then met in Game 3 in Boston. The Red Sox won 4-0, with Dave Ferriss besting Murry Dickson. The Cardinals had Hall of Famers Stan Musial, Red Schoendienst, and Enos Slaughter and the Red Sox featured Hall of Famers Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr. In Game 3, Musial had a triple and a stolen base for the Cardinals, and for the Red Sox, Ted Williams went 1-for-3, with a run, and Rudy York went 2-for-4, with a home run, two runs and three RBIs. St. Louis won the World Series, 4-to-3 in games. The offered proof ticket measures 2.5x7.75", for a $7.20 box seat. The ticket is in EXCELLENT condition, and it represents a thankful time after World War II when hundreds of returning players made the war time watered-down version of the Major Leagues once again the real MAJOR LEAGUES.
