1947-1962 World Series Ticket Stub Collection (22) w/PSA 4mk 1954 Game 1 "The Catch" and Other Memorable Games

Collection of twenty-two World Series ticket stubs, spanning the years 1947 to 1962, including a 1954 Game 1 stub and two 1955 Game 7 stubs.

The highlight of the collection is a New York Giants ticket stub issued for Game 1 of the 1954 World Series against the Cleveland Indians in which Willie Mays made his historic over-the-shoulder catch. Graded VG-EX 4 (MK) by PSA. The "MK" designation is due to a vintage red-ink notation on the reverse that reads "Willie Mays catch/Giants 5 Cleve 2 Dusty Rhodes." That marking aside, this is an exceptional high-grade example of this ticket, with none graded higher in the PSA Population Report. It should also be noted that aside from proofs, no full examples appear in the PSA Population Report. This is one of the most significant postwar World Series tickets in the hobby and it has been appreciating in value dramatically in the past few years, as evidenced by an auction price of $22,900 for a PSA VG 3 example in April 2022.

The remainder of the collection consists of the following: 1) 1947 Game 3 (at Dodgers; Berra first pinch-hit home run); 2) 1949 Game 2 (at Yankees); 3) 1950 Game 3 (at Yankees); 4) 1951 Game 2 (at Yankees); 5) 1951 Game 4 (at Giants; DiMaggio home run; pencil writing on reverse); 6) 1951 Game 5 (at Giants); 7) 1954 Game 2 (at Giants; ink notations on reverse); 8-9) 1955 Game 1 (at Yankees; two examples; Robinson steals home); 10-11) 1955 (at Yankees; two examples; Dodgers only World Championship in Brooklyn); 12-13) 1956 Game 3 (at Yankees; two examples); 14) 1956 Game 4 (at Yankees; Mantle home run); 15) 1957 Game 1 (at Yankees; ink notations on front and reverse); 16) 1957 Game 2 (at Yankees); 17-18) 1957 Game 7 (at Yankees; two examples; ink notations on reverse of each; Burdette wins 3rd game in Series); 19-20) 1962 Game 3 (at Yankees; two examples); 21) 1962 Game 4 (at Yankees; Chuck Hiller hits first grand slam by a National League player). The tickets range in condition from Fair to Very Good, averaging Good, with nearly all displaying light creasing and minor paper loss on the reverse. A few have ink notations on either the front or back, all of which have been duly noted in our listing.
