This has to be one of the earliest baseball photos of Mickey Mantle you‚ll ever come across. Seated in the center, next to the team‚s manager is an extremely young Mantle in this 1948 Baxter Springs "Whiz Kids" panorama. Taken by Mark Heeney Photo of Joplin, Missouri, this panorama reads, "Jr. Gardinal League, Winners 1948, ‚Champions‚, Whiz Kid‚s, Barney Barnett - Mfg., Baxter Springs Kans" across the bottom in white. Four vertical creases, pinholes in corners and four noticeable tears but no damage noticed on Mantle. Measures 8x24.75"
