1949 Cleveland Indians Team Signed Baseball w/Speaker & McKechnie
Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-three members of the 1949 Cleveland Indians: Speaker (coach/scout), McKechnie (coach, sweet spot), Boudreau (player/manager, sweet spot), Gordon, Doby, Lemon, Feller, Garcia, Mitchell, Hegan, Kennedy, Harder (coach), Papish, Zelda, Tucker, Tresh, Benton, Beardon, Keltner, O'Neill (coach), Boone, Berardino, and Vernon. Signatures average 6/10. The ball displays a small blemish on a side panel (not affecting any signatures) and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Tris Speaker was a former player/manager with Cleveland and he kept close ties to the team following his retirement. He served as both an announcer and scout, and, in 1947, was appointed as a special coach to help Larry Doby make the transition from infielder to outfielder. He remained a special coach with the team from that time on until his death in 1958. Despite his association with the club, Speaker's signature is seldom seen on Cleveland team balls from the 1940s and 1950s, making this a rare and desirable example.
