1950 Rockford Peaches (AAGPBL) World Champions Team Signed Baseball with Player Provenance
While the AAGPBL boasted a unique following of loyal fans, the twelve-year league did not receive many requests from autograph collectors. As such, team balls - with the exception of those signed for team members - are practically non-existent.The league's most famous and successful team, the Rockford Peaches, was essentially the AAGPBL's equivalent of the New York Yankees and the movie "A League of Their Own" is based on their exploits. The team ball on offer here is from Rockford's fourth and final championship season in 1950 and came directly from player Shirley Palesh. The "Official Girls Baseball," with "Fred K. Leo Pres., All-American Girls' Prof. Base Ball League" side panel stamp, is signed by 19 Peaches, including the league's most famous player, Dot Kamenshek, plus Palesh (plus "1950" on sweet spot), Bill Allington (manager), Snookie Doyle, Sis Waddell, and Bunny Scheer. The ball is EX with a few minor spots here and there. All ink signatures average 7/10. This lot includes Palesh's personal copy of the 2000 AAGPBL Membership Directory which she signed on the cover.
