1950s Philadelphia Athletics Leather Scouts' Bag

1950s Philadelphia Athletics Leather Scouts' Bag

This leather bag was lugged along during many a long day on the road back in the mid-'50s by a Philadelphia A's scout bird-dogging for the next Jimmie Foxx. You can't say the scout wasn't prepared. Inside are 2 blank player contracts, a blank sheet of A's letterhead, and the roster of the Indians' Keokuk, Iowa farm team -- with one of the outfielders "Maris". Yes, that Roger Maris. The scout's input may have persuaded the A's to trade for Roger after his rookie year with the Tribe in '57. Also with Keokuk was Frank Tanana. Bag has "Philadelphia Athletics" emblazoned in gold on front and EX.
