1951 Brooklyn Dodgers Phantom World Series Press Pin
With 13 1/2 games seperating them from the pack in mid-August of 1951 the Dodgers began focusing their attentions on the post season rather then tending to the task at hand. By season's end the NY Giants had them for first and after a three game play-off that ended with Bobby Thomson's "shot heard round the world" the Bums found themselves on the wrong end of a long winter break. Evidence of that mis-step can be seen here in the form of a Dodgers press pin created for use during the '51 Series they had not even qualified for. The gold baseball design as a white enamel panel etched with the words, "1951 World Series". The ball dons the classic reporter's hat decorated with a blue band that reads, "Dodgers". NRMT-MT.
