1951 Mickey Mantle World Series Game Used Bat (35")
Quite possibly the greatest single piece of Mantle game used memorabilia ever to surface, this bat used by Mickey Mantle during the 1951 World Series will be talked about and admired for years to come, surely to be revered as the most important bat yet from this Yankee legend. As Mantle bats are the cornerstone of the baseball hobby, this one is due particular accolades, as it was used by The Mick during the 1951 World Series in which the New York Yankees defeated the New York Giants 4 Games to 2. The young switch-hitting Mantle had just been called up earlier in the season from the Yankees' Kansas City franchise, and he responded with 13 home runs in 96 games during the regular season. As this Hillerich & Bradsby marks the introduction of Mickey Mantle into the Majors, it is also equally important that this is the only known Mantle game used bat ever to come out of the 1951 World Series, Mantle having only 5 at-bats and one hit during the Series before his well publicized knee injury occured in Game 2, after he caught his foot on a water drain in centerfield after being called off a fly ball by Joe DiMaggio. The injury would haunt Mantle for the rest of his 18-season, Hall of Fame career, during which he would make 11 more World Series appearances. The 1951 World Series was a farewell to Joe DiMaggio, and the introduction of his heir apparent, Mickey Mantle. The bat is a model "T61", although it was incorrectly marked at the factory on the knob, "T41" and bears Mantle's stamped signature on the barrel along with "World Series 1951" in block letters. A mighty piece of lumber, cracked and repaired, with virtually no deadwood. It's "The One!" The bat has been in the family of a single owner since 1953, when the bat was given as a gift, the recipient was told that this was the bat Mantle used to get his first and only hit of the '51 World Series. This is also one of only two bats ordered for, or by Mickey Mantle for the 1951 World Series. Comes with accompanying affidavit and LOA from the bat's owner.
