1951 New York Yankees Signed Booklet w/Joe DiMaggio & Rookie Mickey Mantle Autographs (PSA)
Presented is a 3x5" spiral notebook, in excellent condition, that contains the signatures of the two most famous center fielders in baseball history: Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio. Six other baseball signatures are also in the book. The first eight pages of the 34-page spiral notebook have signatures, each in pencil, one signature per page. The other pages are blank. Six of the eight signatures are from New York Yankees. Mantle was a rookie in 1951, the heir apparent to Joe DiMaggio in center field, with Mickey mostly playing right field in his first season. Mantle was sent to the minors for a time in 1951 and then brought back up to the Yankees. With the Major League club, Mantle that season hit .267, with 13 home runs and 65 RBIs. DiMaggio, in his final season in '51 at age 36, batted .271, with 12 homers and 71 RBIs. Mantle, with 536 home runs, has the most homers of any switch-hitter in history. Mantle captured the attention of America in 1961 when he and Roger Maris both assaulted the single season home run mark of 60 set by Babe Ruth, and when Maris hit his record 61 homers, Mantle, as a sympathetic "loser," became even more popular with fans. Joe DiMaggio still holds the Major League record for hitting in consecutive games, with his miraculous string of 56 games in 1941. Other signatures in the notebook: Jack Jensen, Cliff Mapes, Vic Raschi, Clint Courtney, Sam Jethroe (who never played for the Yankees, but was the first African American to play baseball in Boston for the Braves), and Luis Marguez (also a player for the 1951 Boston Braves). The offering comes with a PSA Letter of Authenticity. This spiral notebook is a rarity in that it contains the signatures of the two greatest Yankee center fielders, from Mickey Mantle in his first season and Joe DiMaggio in his last season. Comes with PSA LOA for autograph.
