1954-57 Willie Mays New York Giants Original Negatives (19)
Fabulous collection of the tough to find Mays in his brief breakout period in New York City. 1) Best of all is a stunning batting pose showing him with grim determination in his sole NY World Championship year of 1954 (4x5”). 2-3) There are two groups here totaling 18 negs, each about 2.5x2.5”. One is a series of him making an inside-the-park home run versus the Phillies at the Polo Grounds on May 30, 1957. It culminates in an acrobatic play at the plate. The second group is also Mays sliding home, this time versus the Dodgers and Rube Walker on May 30, 1955. There is even a four-shot combination 4x5” neg of the play meant to go into the New York Daily News and became a wire photo.
