1954 "Citation" Pair of Vintage Horseshoes Worn at Calumet Farms

Straight from the hooves come these authentic post-career worn horseshoes from Citation at Calumet Farms in 1954. Each shoe is nailed into a 9x10" wooden piece with written statistics done over 60 years ago. Top reads "Citation, Died Aug 11th, 1970, 25 Yrs. Old, LAST Horse to Win Triple Crown, First Horse to Win a Million Dollars, Won 32 of 45 Races, Won 16 in a Row at One Point." Bottom reads "Horse Shoes Off Citation, Calumet Farms Frankfort, KY, October 1954." Attached to the wood is an excerpt from a newspaper article the day Citation died of the age of 25. Beautiful example of an extremely scarce vintage piece of horse racing history.
