Erratum
There is no De Young Museum poster in this collection.
Monster collection from one of the most celebrated, recognized, and imitated artists of the 20th century. Esteemed with the likes of Andy Warhol, Peter Max is one of the most prominent artists of the last several decades. When we remember the 1960's, we remember Peter Max. Considered America's Artist, he is responsible for portraits of the Statue of Liberty on the White House lawn, re-designing the NBC peacock, and being the official artist of the Super Bowl, Grammy's, and Olympics. In the 1960's Peter Max revolutionized the public's perception of art. By licensing and mass producing items bearing his own artowrk, Max made his art accessible to the public. By 1970 there was over $1 billion of Max products on the market. His famous Love poster sold between 3 and 4 million copies. Today those items that once sold for just a few dollars during the 1960's sell for many hundreds of dollars at antique and collectible auctions worldwide. We are thrilled to offer one of the most comprehensive collections of Peter Max posters ever auctioned publicly. It includes many extreme rarities, including some that are so rare, even Peter Max himself doesn't have them in his personal collection! Amongst the gems are two versions of a poster called Beau Brummel which predates any commercial poster offerings. There is a very rare poster that Peter Max created of Bob Dylan that was never distributed because Dylan refused permission. There is a poster for "The World of Peter Max" museum and gallery tour of 1970 beginning at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, as well as promotional posters that Peter created for companies including NBC, The American Cancer Society, Capitol Records, Instant Nutriment breakfast drink, National Library Week, the movie "Paint Your Wagon", The Peace Corps, JC Penney, as well as books, restaurants, gallery exhibits, concerts, and his commercial line of poster from his Peter Max Poster Corp. You will find images of W.C. Fields, Marilyn Monroe, 5th Dimension, & more! Do not overlook this once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire a collection of this stature. Several are signed by the artist. Complete list available upon request.
