1960 Ty Cobb Signed Check Display (PSA)

Personal check, dated March 30, 1960, signed by Ty Cobb. The check, drawn on the First National Bank of Reno, Nevada, is made out to "Dr. M. K. Bailey" in the amount of $275.00. Signed "Tyrus R. Cobb" in green ink (grading 9/10). Cobb's preprinted name appears vertically along the left border. Cobb was in poor health at the time he signed this check, having just recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and Bright's disease. He died a little more than one year later, on July 17, 1961, at the age of seventy four. The check (7.75x2.75", visible dimensions), which has normal bank cancellation stamps and holes (none affecting the signature), displays a light vertical fold and is otherwise in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. The check has been matted and framed together with a black-and-white photo (7x9.5", recent print) of Cobb, a descriptive plaque, and an embroidered Old English "D" (identical in style to the "D" worn by the Detroit Tigers). The matting is unique in that is has been done in a gray wool fabric, with the material similar to that used in the old dead-ball era baseball uniforms, giving the piece a vintage "feel." Total dimensions: 33x20". Full LOA from PSA. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot willnecessitate an increased shipping charge.
