1960s Mickey Mantle Maypo Cardboard
Charming Mickey Mantle Maypo Sign (13.75x19.75"). Late 1960s sign when Hall of Famer Mickey endorsed Maypo cereal, a brand marketed primarily to children. First cardboard example to be at auction. Recently found out of an estate in New England. If you scrutinize Mickey's face, you can see the imitation tears applied to Mantle's cheeks and if you even closer, Mantle may be holding back a laugh rather than crying. Well, it's all in fun. Even the heading of the advertisement that reads, "I want my Maypo." Mickey was near the end of his career, but here we see him as a little kid who is crying for his Maypo. Six tiny holes in corners where the poster was tacked up. Otherwise excellent condition. This is the first we have seen of this variety meant to be inserted into cases.
