1961 Roger Maris 61st Home Run Ticket Stub & Program

1961 Roger Maris 61st Home Run Ticket Stub & Program

New York Yankees program and ticket stub issued for the historic game on October 1, 1961, in which Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's longstanding single-season home run record. Our consignor attended the game that day and both items have remained in his possession since that time. The twenty-page program has been neatly scored in pencil and records Maris' record-breaking solo home run off of Tracy Stallard in the fourth inning, which proved to be the game winner, as the Yankees held on for a 1-0 win over the Boston Red Sox. Our consignor recorded the day's events in blue ink on the front cover, writing "Sunday Oct 1, 1961 1-0/Maris Hits #61/Breaks Ruth's Record." The ticket stub from the game, which was for an "Upper Box Seat," has been attached to the front cover of the program by nine vintage staples. The program (6x9.25") displays moderate wear, including light creasing, a 1.5" horizontal tear on the front cover, and a few small edge tears to the cover. In Good to Very Good condition overall. The ticket stub (1.5x3"), without consideration of the staples, is in Very Good condition, with a few light creases.
