1962 Baseball Writers Association of America Program Signed By Jackie Robinson (PSA)

1962 Baseball Writers Association of America Program Signed By Jackie Robinson (PSA)

Here is a treat: The program from the 23rd Annual Dinner of the Baseball Writers of America, Boston Chapter, held at the Statler Hilton on Jan. 25, 1962. The 6x9" program has 18+ signatures, comprised mostly of present and past baseball players and current writers. Jackie Robinson, who broke modern baseball's "color line" in 1947, and who would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame that summer, signed on the cover in blue ballpoint pen. Roger Maris, who broke Babe Ruth's single season home run record in the recently completed season, signed in blue ballpoint pen on the inside back cover. Slugger Rudy York also signed the program, as did famed Jimmy Piersall, former Red Sox center fielder and the subject of the movie Fear Strikes Out. Included in the program are the amusing "doctored" lyrics to the song "The Last Time I Saw Paris," now called "The Last Time I Saw Maris," and sung at the banquet by Tracy Stallard, the Boston Red Sox pitcher who in the final game of the 1961 season gave up the famous 61st home run by Maris. The program adds nostalgia and notable autographs to any collection. Comes with PSA LOA.
