1962 Casey Stengel Game Worn Jacket and Cap
After a charmed and illustrious four decades in baseball, the 70-plus-year-old Casey Stengel was chosen to manage the expansion New York Mets team. Once in New York, Stengel coined the name, “Amazing Mets” and was a key factor in promoting the worst team in history. Mets warm-up jacket is loaded with use and history from one of the greatest minds, and most colorful personalities in baseball. “NY” embroidered in orange over the heart. Circular Mets “Skyline” patch on left sleeve. Inside the jacket is a patch with Swiss embroidered “37”. “Pro KM” label & “42” size tag below. Comes with Matching Mets cap, also showing heavy use with “Stengel” written in faded marker on the inside lining. “Tim McAuliffe” tag attached to leather sweatband, printed with “Pro KM.” At the end of the 1962 season, Casey Stengel personally gave the jacket to Jack Lang of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
