1963 Sandy Koufax Record-Setting Strikeout Milestone Games Ticket Pair (PSA - Low Pop Numbers)
Pair of rare tickets stubs from Sandy Koufax' record-breaking and record-extending strikeout games in 1963, each encapsulated by PSA and representing low population numbers. 1) Pittsburgh Pirates ticket stub issued for a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 10, 1963, in which Sandy Koufax broke his own National League single-season strikeout record. PSA has encapsulated the ticket stub and certified it as "Authentic." This is the ONLY example of this ticket stub listed in the PSA Population Report. Koufax entered the game with 267 strikeouts on the year, two shy of his own record 269 set in 1969. He struck out nine in his 4-2 win over the Pirates that day, to set the new record of 276. The ticket stub (3.5x1.75") displays numerous light pencil notations on the reverse and is otherwise in Very Good to Excellent condition. 2) Philadelphia Phillies ticket stub issued for a doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers on September 13, 1963, in which Sandy Koufax extended his own National League single-season strikeout record in Game 1. PSA has encapsulated the ticket stub and certified it as "Authentic." This is one of just two examples of this ticket stub listed in the PSA Population Report (both are certified as "Authentic"). Koufax struck out eight in seven innings, which gave him a new record of 284 strikeouts on the year, but he did not record a decision in the Dodgers' 3-2 loss. Koufax eventually finished the year with 306 strikeouts. The ticket stub (1.5x3") displays a few moderate creases and is in Good to Very Good condition.
