1965 Dylan/Baez Tour "Von Schmidt" Flyer

There are few images which capture a time and place more vividly then the offered masterpiece. It features the collaboration of two of the most important voices of that generation, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, for their East Coast Tour of 1965. This poster was designed by fellow Cambridge,MA Folk Singer and artist Eric Von Schmidt as an homage to the painter Toulouse-Lautrec. From the book Positively 4th Street: "Eric attempted to design the illustration & lettering in such a way that neither Baez or Dylan would appear to outshine the other. Joan appeared first(if you're looking left to right) but Dylan appeared higher, so they were each given equal prominence, equal billing". Dylan disliked the poster as he apparently felt that his nose was too big. This short East Coast Acoustic Tour(from approx 12 dates from the end of Feb to end of March; possibly early April) was a clash of egos. Both Dylan and Baez were a huge stars of the Folk Scene. Baez feelings were hurt as she would introduce Dylan every night and he would then join her onstage yet he never reciprocated. Soon their professional & personal relationship would end and Dylan would not perform together with Baez for 10 years. This was a mere 4 months before Newport Folk Festival when Dylan played electric for the first time in public and was booed, effectively ending the Folk Zenith. One of the most important posters of the era, this example is immaculate, with spectacular color and overall Near Mint to Mint condition. Size 5?”x9?”.
