1965 John Lennon Autograph From India

1965 John Lennon Autograph From India

While on retreat in India in 1965, John Lennon sent this beautifully executed autograph to a German fan. To set the scene, Lennon had been burned out by the pressures and exhaustion of the Beatles' incredible success, and following the band's British tour of '65, he and the other Beatles visited the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's retreat in Rikikesh on the banks of the Ganges to clear their heads. Lennon felt good enough to respond to the fan's autograph request, though he wrote on the envelope, perhaps rebukingly, "This is the second one you have asked for." The autograph, "With love, John Lennon," is on an oblong 2 1/2 x 6" sheet in black marker and is a perfect 10. The light blue envelope sent to Holger Kempe in Hamburg, West Germany, bears postage from India and a German postmark. It is EX.
