1967-68 Bobby Orr Game Worn Boston Bruins Home Jersey
The earliest all original Bobby Orr jersey known to exist. There is one rookie jersey out there but it is not in its original state. This one is from the 1967-68 season, his second year in the NHL. He is wearing this exact jersey on the cover of the December 11, 1967 issue of Sports Illustrated (included in this lot). It was Orr's first appearance on an SI cover. He was the cover boy a total of five times. He is also wearing this exact jersey in a Bruins publicity photo and a large framed Neilson poster (24-1/2 x 38") that are also included in this lot. Sharing the poster with him is the great Jean Beliveau. These images can be matched to this very jersey by the unique marks from game play and irregular stitching on the collar. Jersey shows fabulous use with blood spotting on the front most likely from that huge gash on his nose. Tie-front style has Wilson in collar and appears to be a size 48. Collar is slightly torn at bottom of the "V." The hand-written size has faded from the tag. No less than 7 team repairs, all on the sleeves or shoulders. Fantastic use both inside and out. No fight strap, as there never was one in this jersey. Red board mark at the bottom of the back is visible on the poster. As good as it gets. One of the best original hockey jerseys known to still exist. And it's ready to take its place as the centerpiece of any hockey collection.
