1969 Chicago Cubs Team-Signed Baseball

In 1969, the Chicago Cubs led the National League East for most of the season, but the New York "Miracle Mets" overtook the Cubs in mid-September and finished strong to win the pennant and then the World Series, The Cubs finished the year with a 92-70-1 record, in second place. The team is one of the few teams famous for not winning a pennant. In current times, they would be a playoff team, but at that time only the division winners made the playoffs. The Cubs were full of stars, and of the 26 signatures on this team signed ball, five of them are by Hall of Famers. Signing on the sweet spot was HOF manager Leo Durocher, who had played on the 1928 Yankees and been the manager of pennant winnings teams with the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants. Other Hall of Famers signing the ball: Sluggers Ernie Banks (Mister Cub), Ron Santo, and Billy Williams - as well as pitcher Ferguson Jenkins. Other signatures include Kenny Holtzman, Phil Regan, Glenn Beckett, Don Kessinger, Dick Selma, Bill Hands, Jim Hickman, Rich Nye, Joey Amalfitano, Jimmy Qualls, and more. The special baseball has a Cubs' logo. The ball is around a grade of Ex, with some mild toning. The signatures vary, but most are in the 6-7/10 range.
