1969 Gil Hodges Handwritten And Signed Mets Letter
Wonderful one-pager with outstanding content on New York Mets stationery dates to the tail end of 1969. Handwritten gem from the Amazin’s manager to a gracious “collector” offering to give him (get this), the actual first base from the last game at Ebbets Field. Of course, anyone who knew Hodges was familiar with his modesty and kindness, Gil actually suggests Mr. Kirschner donate the valuable base to the Hall of Fame. Hodges nicely mentions that he would “be elated to show it to many baseball fans” if the Hall refused the donation. Personally, I don’t think old Number 14 got to see the final sack from his old home. The writing is flawless, (9/10) overall, with a Mint signature. Condition is Excellent, with normal mailing folds. Includes the original envelope, with “G.Hodges” sig and home address.
