1970-71 Bobby Orr Game Worn Boston Bruins Road Jersey
A drop dead killer! A jersey positively identified as having been worn by the greatest defenseman in the history of ice hockey, arguably the greatest player of all time, the man who changed the way the entire sport is played. During this season he would top the 100 point mark for the 4th time in a row. He would go on to do it the next two seasons as well. Wilson tag in collar with very faded "50" (size) written on it in pen. Marvelously preserved Bruins crest on front with equally impressive "4" on the back and shoulders. Tie-front neck has been split over an inch at the bottom of the "V" and then repaired by the team. We count a total of no less than 19 team repairs on the jersey. 19! One of the repairs on the back of the jersey is over 9 inches long. There is no fight strap and there is no evidence of there ever having been one. Orr was known to not like them. Plenty of pilling on the inside of this jersey from the friction of the material rubbing against the pads. Red board marks are visible around the bottom of the jersey. 1976 letter from Alan Eagleson to Jack McDonald states, " This is for your son John. It is one of the sweaters that Bobby Orr wore while playing for the Bruins." It certainly is. By the looks of it, he may have worn it for the entire season. Also comes with letter confirming that this very jersey was displayed in the Canada Sports Hall of Fame and was on loan by Mr. John MacDonald. Words can not describe the historic magnitude of this jersey! Think of it as part of the mother lode of Orr hockey memorabilia Lelands is exceedingly proud to offer in the auction.
