1971 Pele Brazil Game Worn Jersey

1971 Pele Brazil Game Worn Jersey

Perhaps the greatest soccer player who ever lived, Pele graced the pitch with this terrific yellow jersey from the last year he played for the Brazilian national team in 1971. The "CBD" shield is on the left breast and large "10" on the back. An Athleta tag is in the collar. This is all-original with very nice use. There's a vintage signature on the front in 6/10 black felt tip, and he uses his birth name, Edson. Over his storied career, Pele scored 760 official goals, including 541 in league championships, making him the top scorer of all-time. In total, he amassed a staggering 1,281 goals in 1,363 games. In his native Brazil, Pele enjoys national hero status. His 92 goals with the Brazilian national team are still a record, and the three World Cups he helped his country win make him the only player to boast three World Cup medals. His last international match was on July 18, 1971 against Yugoslavia in Rio de Janeiro. With Pele active, Brazil posted a brilliant all-time record of 67 wins, 14 draws and 11 losses. He played his last three years in America with the New York Cosmos. Though well past his prime at that point, Pele was credited with significantly increasing public awareness and interest in soccer in the United States, leading the Cosmos to the 1977 North American Soccer League championship in his final professional season.
