1971 Topps Greatest Moments Set w/ PSA 8 NM-MT graded Stars
This scarce and high grade 55-card 1971 Topps Greatest Moments set mixes obscure feats such as Bill Freehan leading American League catchers in fielding for six straight years to famous ones such as Denny McLain winning 31 games fro the World Champion '68 Tigers. The 2 1/2" by 4 1/2" cards are packaged in an interesting design. Next to a color head shot, a black and white photo looks as if it were torn from a newspaper. The back features a newspaper-style headline and story. The set is unique because nearly all of the players featured are considered stars or at the least above average players. Additionally, 22 of the cards were double printed which means nearly half of the set is more difficult to find than the other half. Furthermore, problems make well-done editions like this very hard to come across. These cards are very lightly handled only and suffer generally only those dastardly centering problems so often seen on GM's. Highlights include (4 cards) PSA 8 NM-MT # 13 Bench, #15 Rose, # 37 Williams, and # 41 Mays, (5) PSA 7 NM # 7 Kaat, # 12 Pinson, # 19 Kaline, # 43 Bunning, # 50 Mcdowell. Overall we grade the set 10% NM-MT, 10% NRMT, 50% EX-MT, with just a handful of cards grading slightly below.
