1973 Onion Upsets Secretariat "Winner's Circle" Oil on Canvas from Jacinto Vasquez

Onion is shown in the Winner's Circle after defeating Secretariat in one of racing's biggest upsets ever at the 1973 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga. One of the great jockeys ever, Hall of Famer Jacinto Vasquez sits proudly in the saddle, and he commissioned this work and two others in this sale; they come directly from him. Signed on verso, "Jacinto Vasquez...Onion," this piece measures overall 31x19" in special panoramic aspect. By a talented British artist (Jacinto has since forgotten the name of), but the artist has initialed it on the verso "EFB." He is shown here with Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens.
