1974 Cleveland Indians Beer Night Poster

1974 Cleveland Indians Beer Night Poster

This is an original cardboard poster that hung in the Cleveland area to promote this special promotion night at Cleveland Stadium. Suffering from very low attendance, the Indians club decided to entice fans to the game by offering beer for ten cents a cup. The gimmick worked up to a point, as over 25,000 fans showed up for the June 4, 1974 game against the Texas Rangers. Unfortunately, the fans became disorderly, with some running naked onto the field and others throwing bottles, rocks and other missiles at the opposing players. The game was eventually forfeited to Texas in the ninth inning when a riot broke out and drunken fans swarmed the playing field; future beer promotions at Cleveland Stadium were limited to four cups of beer per person. Poster measures 22 x 27 1/2" and is all original. VG condition.
