1974 Wayne Gretzky Signed Player Contract
The genesis of the game's greatest era, captured in ink on paper. In 1974, a twelve year-old Wayne Gretzky garnered a flurry of media attention with his stellar performance at the Quebec City International PeeWee Hockey Tournament. The Quebec tournament was, and continues to be, a showcase of the world's best at the PeeWee level and has given us an early glimpse of many NHL stars including Guy Lafleur and Mario Lemieux. We are excited to present Wayne Gretzky's original signed contract from this historic tournament. The earliest Gretzky document ever offered and quite possibly the earliest signature on the market, this certificate is dated "2, 1, 1974" and has Wayne's typed player information including his address "42 Varadi Ave, Brantford," birthday "26 January, 1961" and team "Brantford Turkstra Lumber." Wayne has signed twice on the front, once in blue ballpoint and again in black marker. Walter Gretzky has signed at the bottom as guardian. Wayne's signature is in a child-like form, a style he copied well into his NHL days. The reverse of the contract is no less spectacular! Wayne has signed his name FOUR more times, one for each game played. The 4x6" document has been laminated and hole punched at the top for filing. Obtained from the tournament director and accompanied by his business card. In near mint condition.
