1979-80 Dave Keon Hartford Whalers Game Worn Jersey
Dave Keon spent 23 seasons as a professional hockey player from 1959 to 1982, mostly with the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs. Keon was named NHL Rookie of the Year in 1960. He had superior agility and excellent speed, both of which he used to become one of the league's best penalty killers. Keon also had an excellent backhand shot. In 1967, he led the Maple Leafs to the Stanley Cup and captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Playoff MVP. When the WHA was formed, Keon left the NHL to join the New England, later the Hartford Whalers, where he retired as a player after the 1982 NHL season. Keon was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986. The Stall & Dean manufacturer’s tag, along with additional tags having washing instructions and the sweater size "48," are inside the back collar of the sweater. On the front is the Whalers "W" logo patch in green and blue tackle twill. On each shoulder is the Whalers "Whale" logo patch in green and white on blue tackle twill. On each sleeve and on the back of the sweater is the player number "14" in green on blue tackle twill. Across the back is "KEON" also in green on blue tackle twill. The jersey shows extensive game use with many stick marks, several small holes and stains, the latter especially on the shoulders. The sweater was acquired from a former Whalers employee.
