1979-80 Reed Larson Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey
Reed Larson is an American hockey player from Minnesota who was a high-scoring defenseman in the NHL, mostly for the Detroit Red Wings. Offered is a game worn Reed Larson Detroit Red Wings hockey jersey from the 1979-80 season. Larson led the University of Minnesota hockey team to the NCAA Championship in 1976 and was the '76 22nd overall NHL draft choice when he was selected by Detroit. In his first nine seasons in the NHL, Larson scored at least 17 goals and had at least 58 points. He was the first American defenseman to ever score 200 NHL goals. The 3-time All-Star won the Lester Patrick Trophy. Larsen played for six NHL teams, but the key part of his playing career was the 10 seasons he was on the Detroit Red Wings. Larson played 904 NHL games and scored 222 goals and added 463 assists for 685 points, exceptionally high totals for a back-liner. In the season when Larson wore the displayed jersey, he scored 22 goals and added 44 assists for 66 points. The white mesh jersey has red trim. It shows super use with team repairs, stick marks, paint transfers, loose threads and pilling. The chest has the Red Wings' logo. Each sleeve has a white "22" and the back has a red "22," and all of these numbers are original. The name has been removed from the back, and it appears that at one time the jersey had the Alternate Captain's "A" on the left chest. There is a Stall and Dean manufacturer's tag in the collar. Also in the collar is a tag with washing instructions and a separate size "52" tag. There is a metal clip fight strap inside. The combination of Reed Larson's high scoring play and the great use exhibited on this Detroit Red Wings jersey makes this item a valued hockey collectible.
