1980 Miracle On Ice Ticket Collection w/One Gold Medal Ticket Signed By Mike Eruzione (5)
It was an event that Sports Illustrated termed the greatest sports moment of the Twentieth Century. Presented are five full tickets to events related to the Miracle On Ice. The United States and the Soviet Union hockey teams were tied at 3 in the final period of their medal round game of the 1980 Winter Olympics on February 22nd at Lake Placid, New York. Then, with exactly 10:00 left to play in the third period, U.S. center Mike Eruzione scored to give the United States a 4-3 lead against the heavily favored Soviet Union. The Soviet Union had won five of the previous six Olympic hockey gold medals, and their team was composed mostly of seasoned professionals, while the U.S. team was mostly amateurs, with only four players having professional experience, and that at the minor league level. The tension was enormous as the U.S. tried to hold onto the lead. Finally, television announcer Al Michaels said as time was about to expire, "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" The United States had indeed created a miracle, but team needed one more victory to win the Gold Medal. Two days later, the U.S. team defeated Finland and took the Gold Medal. The lot consists of five tickets: 1} A ticket to the Opening Ceremony on Feb. 13th; 2) A ticket to the Closing Ceremony on Feb. 24th; 3) Three tickets to the Final Game when the United States defeated Finland to win the Gold Medal, one signed by Mike Eruzione. The United States Captain's signature is neatly written in blue marker; 4) A ticket to the Gold Medal Game when the U.S. defeated Finland. The tickets (measuring 2.6" x 7.6"), are all in excellent condition, with one signed by Mike Eruzione, the most famous player on the team. These tickets constitute a great display for a singular event in American sporting history.
