1980s Guy Lafleur Game Used Stick

1980s Guy Lafleur Game Used Stick

Guy Lafleur, as a youth, idolized the great Montreal Canadiens center Jean Beliveau, who wore Number 4. After Beliveau retired from the Montreal Canadiens, the Hall of Fame center at first urged Lafleur, a young player on the Canadiens, to take Number 4. Later, Beliveau changed his mind, saying, "Don't try to be another Jean Beliveau. Be the first Guy Lafleur. Take a number and make it your own." That's what Lafleur did, as he wore Number 10 and went to the Hall of Fame himself as one of the greatest Montreal Canadiens players of all-time. Presented is a 1980s Guy Lafleur game used Sher-Wood stick, prepared for a right-handed shot. Lafleur played in the NHL from 1971-91, except for 1985-88 when he was retired. Lafleur spent the first 14 years of his NHL career with Montreal, retired after the 1984-85 season, and after he was already elected to the Hall of Fame, he came back to play three more seasons - with the New York Rangers (in 1988-89) and the Quebec Nordiques (1989-91). A right wing who shot right-handed, Lafleur was a 5-time Stanley Cup winner with Montreal. He was the first NHL player to score 50 goals in six straight seasons, as well as the first NHL player to both score 50 goals and have at least 100 points in six straight seasons. Lafleur, known as "the Flower," (his name in French) and "Le Demon Blond" (The Blond Demon in French), was a 2-time Hart Trophy winner and a 3-time Ross Trophy winner, and he won the Conn Smythe Award in 1977. The offering is a perfect game used stick with great use and original tape on the blade and on the butt end. "LAFLEUR G 10" is stamped on the shaft, as is "FAIT A LA MAIN PAR DROLET (French for "Handmade by Drolet")." Handwritten by an unknown hand on the shaft in black marker is "XX." This game used stick of Lafleur, a wondrous magician with the puck, is a great addition to any sports collection.
