1981 Satchel Paige Signature Framed with Photo

1981 Satchel Paige Signature Framed with Photo

Great photo and nice signature from all-time legend Leroy "Satchel" Paige. This Hall of Famer pitcher won only 28 games in Major League Baseball, an injustice because of the color line that existed prior to Jackie Robinson's debut in 1947. Paige made his MLB debut with the Cleveland Indians in 1948, when he was already 42 years old. Still he was effective in five major league seasons and a brief return for one game for the Kansas City Athletics, when he was 59. Born in 1906, Paige played in the Negro leagues, in Cuba, Mexico, and Puerto Rico - playing the year round - basically anywhere the baseball world he was allowed. He moved from team to team throughout his career, but he played from 1940-1947 with the Kansas City Monarchs, of the Negro American League. This beautiful photo shows him in a Kansas City Monarch's home uniform. The Monarchs were one of the top teams in the Negro leagues, year after year. Paige, a terrific draw, would often temporarily leave the Monarchs in the course of the season to play exhibition games with other teams, even other Negro League teams. Black and white photo approx. 10.5x13.5, framed 16.25x21.25". Nice Signature. Photo from negative, not printed. 1981 signature appears to be on a business card or something similar, but never opened.
