1985 Topps Fooball Unopened Wax Box (BBCE)
The 1986 Topps Football set goes back to the time when sets were not about autographs and inserts. The front layout of the standard size cards features green borders with white stripes, evoking the colors on a football field. The key card is the rookie card of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice. A wide receiver, Rice played in the NFL for 21 seasons, primarily for the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders. He holds NFL career records for receptions, touchdown receptions, and receiving yardage. He was a part of three Super Bowl winning teams, and he is considered by many to be the NFL's top all-time receiver. Other key rookie cards in the set include Bruce Smith, Boomer Esiason, and Andre Reed. The Topps USFL cards of 1984 included Steve Young and Reggie White, so their 1986 cards are their NFL rookie cards. Other famous NFL stars in the '86 set: Joe Montana, William "Refrigerator" Perry, Walter Payton, and Dan Marino. After the early 1980s football cards hit a creative slump, this 396-card set brought back flair to football cards and it was, and is, a big hit.
