1986 Roger Clemens 20 Ks Signed Full Ticket PSA EX-MT 6 Auto 10
Presented is an April 29, 1986, Red Sox Roger Clemens signed full ticket to his 20-strikeout MLB record setting performance against the Seattle Mariners. Clemens struck out 20 Seattle Mariners in a nine-inning game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park as Clemens broke the Major League mark for strikeouts in a nine-inning game that was held by Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton, and Nolan Ryan. Only 13,414 fans were at Fenway on a windy night, but they saw Roger Clemens at his peak. The big right-hander started strong, striking out the side in the top of the 1st inning. Pitch counts weren't emphasized in 1986, and Clemens was working fast. The lone Mariner run was on a bases-empty home run by Gorman Thomas in the 7th inning. The Red Sox scored the team's only runs on a 3-run homer by Dwight Evans in the bottom of the 7th. Clemens' 20th strikeout was on a one-out whiff (looking) of Phil Bradley in the 9th inning. Clemens threw 138 pitches, 97 for strikes in his complete game outing. Ten years later, he struck out 20 Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium to tie his record. Clemens is still the only pitcher in Major League history to have twice fanned 20 batters in a nine-inning game. Clemens signed the $8.00 reserved seat ticket in black ink from a marker) as "20 Ks/Roger Clemens." The Red Sox had a 95-66 record in '86, won the pennant and lost in seven games to the New York Mets in the World Series. Clemens was 24-4 in '86, and he was 354-184 lifetime. The full ticket has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified EX-MT 6, AUTO 10.
