1986 Roger Clemens Boston Red Sox Payroll Check (PSA)
By today's standards, Roger Clemens was a bargain for the Boston Red Sox in 1986. Offered is his signed payroll check. Clemens, at 23-years-old, was having his breakout season as he led the American league with 24 wins, lost only 4 times, won the AL Cy Young and MVP Awards. He helped the Red Sox to the 1986 pennant. Measuring 3.5x8.5", the BayBank Middlesex Everett, Mass. bank check is made out to "William Roger Clemens - 1210 Red Rock Canyon - Katy, Texas 77450." On the top of the front of the check is printed "Boston," in black, and the Red Sox logo and the words "Red Sox," both in red. The payroll check is dated 5/15/86 for the amount of $13,188.87. On the reverse, Clemens has signed his name in bold, neat black pen as Roger Clemens. Clemens won 364 games, losing 184 in 24 years old pitching. He won two pitching Triple Crowns and was a 7-time Cy Young Award recipient. Primarily because of allegations of steroid use, he is not in the Hall of Fame. The signed check is an autograph of one of the players with outstanding statistics who are not in the Hall of Fame. Should Roger "Rocket" Clemens ever reach baseball's shine, the value of the check will surely rocket. The autographed check has been encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA as AUTHENTIC.
