1989 Jari Kurri Edmonton Oilers Game Worn Jersey
Heavy mesh CCM uniform worn by Hall-of-Famer and 500-goal club member Jari Kurri during the first months of the 1989-90 Stanley Cup Championship season. This home white example was part of the solitary mesh set worn before the team switched to knits at some point in November or December. This is almost certainly the sweater Jari was wearing on October 15th, 1989 as Wayne Gretzky slipped one past the Oilers’ netminder Bill Ranford to score his 1851st NHL point, shattering the record previously held by the great Gordie Howe. Photos of this historic event show Kurri in the frame wearing a white mesh with a cuff length identical to that of this example. Jari sported longer sleeves after the knit sets arrived. The embroidered blue CCM logo sits on the outer tail and the Maska tag is there in the neck with size “54” marked in ballpoint. Game wear consists of a few stick marks on the body with 30 more marks, scuffs and burns on the left sleeve and 20 marks on the opposite arm. A few small holes have been left unrepaired. The cuff length has been shortened and hemmed to Jari’s liking. Good pilling inside the arms and around the fight strap. A perfect example from Wayne’s former linemate, undoubtedly worn during a milestone moment.
