1989 World Series Earthquake Game Home Plate
It was October 17, 1989 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The event was the 3rd Game of the World Series between the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants. Just a few minutes before the start of the game, the city was rocked by the Loma Prieta Earthquake, registering a 6.9 on the Richter scale, enough to claim 63 lives and $6 billion to $10 billion in property damage. The natural disaster delayed the Series for 10 days. Here is the home plate that was in place at Candlestick Park on the date of that memorable game. Inscribed on the back by Dick Dobbins: "This home plate was in place at Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA on Tues. Oct 17, 1989, date of the third World Series Game with Oakland, but more importantly the date of the Loma Prieta Earthquake that delayed the World Series by ten days." Our consignor has misplaced the LOA from Dick Dobbins, but the handwriting is completely in the hand of Dobbins. Comes with Lelands LOA.
