1991-92 Paul Coffey Record Breaking 311th Goal Game Worn Skates
Historic 1991 Bauer hockey skates game worn by Pittsburgh Penguins backliner Paul Coffey during the game in which he established a new record for career goals by an NHL defenseman. Bauer Tuuk Plus model skates show great use with small tears to the material covering the toecap of each, with team-added reinforcement to the inside, outside, and ankle of each, the areas most exposed to injury from blocking shots. The white sole of each has written 77 (Coffey's number) along with 311 (the new record goals total) and SL (likely the equipment manager's initials) in black marker. The Pens were early in the 1991-92 season - in defense of their first Stanley Cup the previous season - when Coffey's second period goal against the Winnipeg Jets eclipsed the previous mark held by New York Islanders' legend Denis Potvin, as Pittsburgh went on to a 3-1 victory. While his record was eventually surpassed by Ray Bourque's 410 tallies, Paul Coffey's final total of 396 remains second on the all-time list.
