1993-94 Michal Pivonka Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey

1993-94 Michal Pivonka Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey

Michal Pivonka had to defect from Czechoslovakia in the former Soviet Iron Curtain in 1986 in order to play in the NFL. Drafted in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, Pivonka had to secretly plan his defection for two years and then travel through at least eight countries in his daring escape. The Czech center played his entire 13-year NFL career with the Washington Capitals, scoring 181 goals and added 418 assists for 599 NHL points. The playmaker has the third most assists in Washington Capitals history, behind only Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Ovechkin. The jersey is all in red, white, and blue. "CAPITALS" is displayed across the chest with a "hockey stick" helping to form the letter T. The chest also exhibits six alternating red or blue stars. Each sleeve has "20" in a blue numeral with red trim, and six alternating red or blue stars on the lower sleeve. Affixed to the upper right chest is a red, white, and blue "Washington Capitals 20th Anniversary" patch. The back of the jersey exhibits "PIVONKA" at the top and "20" underneath the name, both name and number in blue with red trim. a "MASKA AIR-KNIT" tag in the neck indicates the jersey is "100%" polyester." Also in the neck is a small tag that shows the size to be "54." On the lower outside back is tagging "CCM." Next to that is the NHL logo, and the jersey has a fight strap. The jersey shows great use, with blood, cuts, paint transfers, stick marks and pilling.
