1994 Richard "R.E" Jacobs Single-Signed Jacobs Field Inaugural Year Baseball

1994 Richard "R.E" Jacobs Single-Signed Jacobs Field Inaugural Year Baseball

Presented is a baseball signed in 1994 (the inaugural season for Cleveland's Jacobs Field) by R.E. "Dick" Jacobs, the co-owner, with his brother David H. Jacobs, of the Cleveland Indians baseball team from 1986-2000, and the men for whom the then-new stadium was named. The Jacobs brothers purchased the naming rights to the new ballpark and called it "Jacobs Field." Replacing Municipal Stadium as the home of the Indians, the field initially seated 42,865, and the now-modified field seats 35,041. In 2008, the naming rights to the field went to Progressive Insurance, and the field became known as Progressive Field, although Cleveland area fans still often refer to the facility by its former nickname as "The Jake." In its time as "Jacobs Field" the stadium housed Cleveland Indians teams that won seven American League Central Division Championships, including five in a row from 1995-99. In that time period, the Indians were also AL Champions twice - in 1995 and '97. The Rawlings Official American League Ball (Brown) is signed "R.E. Jacobs" on the sweet spot, using blue ink from a ballpoint pen. The ball is in excellent condition and the signature is 7/10.
