1996-97 Bob Probert Chicago Black Hawks Game Worn Jersey

1996-97 Bob Probert Chicago Black Hawks Game Worn Jersey

Bob Probert is officially listed as a left wing, but his real position in hockey was as an enforcer. Although the NHL has deemphasized fighting in today's hockey, when Probert played for the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks from 1985-86 through 2001-02, each team usually had an enforcer, a player valued more for his fighting than for his offensive skills. It wasn't that Probert wasn't talented. But his main value nevertheless resided in his fighting. In his peak offensive season, he scored 29 goals and added 33 assists for 62 points for the !987-88 Red Wings. He also found the opportunity to lead the NHL in penalty minutes that season, with 398. He was also named to the Campbell Conference All-Star Team that campaign. While with Detroit, Probert teamed with fellow tough guy Joey Kocur to become a pair known as the "Bruise Brothers". In his career, Probert accumulated an amazing 3,300 penalty minutes. The jersey shows fine use, with stick marks, pilling, and loose threads. Inside the shield at the bottom of the jersey is written "96", for the year, and also "3", written for Set 3. The front features the multi-CCM manufacturer's tag, one that lists the jersey as 100% polyester. The back includes number "24" in black numerals with red trim. On the top of the back is "Probert" in black block letters. The left sleeve has the crossed tomahawk Blackhawk logo and underneath that the number "24" in black numerals with red trim. The right sleeve also has the number "24" in black numerals with red trim. The bottom right outside has a CCM logo and a NHL shield. Written inside the back of the shield, in black marker, is "96" for the year and "3" for Set 3. The jersey also has a fight strap. Probert was in numerous off-ice incidents in his career, and his hard-living lifestyle resulted in numerous incidents with law enforcement. Probert passed away from a heart attack in 2010. Probert's hockey autobiography, titled Tough Guy: My Life on the Edge, was published posthumously in 2010. The jersey, with its great use, is a fitting remembrance to one of the NHL's toughest players.
