1996-97 Mario Lemieux Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey
The Penguins hosted the visiting Flyers on February 16, 1997 and team captain Mario Lemieux took to the ice wearing this home white Pittsburgh uniform. Striking white, gold and black sweater holds the "C" up on the left breast and displays a neat black Sharpie signature on the front crest. The area on the inside, behind the crest, is marked “2/16/97 vs. Flyers” with the trainer's signature. An exclusive tag sewn into the hem reads “66 Lemieux, 96-97”. Neck labeling includes the Center Ice tag, Starter tag with a large "66 C" added in marker by trainer Steve Laten, and the size 56-R size tag. Light game wear with three or four stick marks and a few pulls. A couple of nice dark stick slashes appear on the belly and Super Mario has added a gorgeous gold signature on the back numbers. This specific shirt was part of a short-lived program where the team placed special Mario Lemieux tags inside his game shirts during the last few months leading up to Mario's first retirement and very few of these examples have made it onto the market. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity of Penguins Letterhead Signed by GM Craig Patrick.
