1998-99 Chris Chelios Chicago Blackhawks Game Issued Jersey

1998-99 Chris Chelios Chicago Blackhawks Game Issued Jersey

Chris Chelios is a Hall of Fame defenseman who was a remarkable player for two main reasons: 1) He was a high-powered offensive defenseman who played 26-seasons in the NHL. 2) He played part of the 2009-10 season with the Atlanta Thrashers - when he was 48 years old, which placed Chelios - behind only Gordie Howe - as the second oldest NHL player in history. Displayed is a Chris Chelios game issued 1998-89 Chicago Blackhawks jersey. Chelios was with the Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Atlanta Thrashers in his NHL career, and he was a part of three Stanley Cup winning teams - one with Montreal and two with the Detroit Red Wings. In the regular season, he played 1,651 games, tallying 185 goals and 763 assists for 948 points. In 266 playoff games, Chelios notched 31 goals and added 113 assists for 144 points. In the 1998-99 season, when the offered jersey was game issued, Chelios played in 80 games, with 15 goals and 58 assists, for 73 points. In that season, he won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman, and he was 5th in voting the Hart Trophy, as the league's MVP. We call the jersey game issued because we don't see any use, although it has been laundered. The red jersey has the striking multi-colored Blackhawks Native American logo sewn on the chest. In the collar is a Nike manufacturer's tag with a "52" for size. The collar also has a bilingual English/French Authentic Center Ice NHL manufacturer's tag, and underneath the above is a small "Made in Canada" tag. On the inside tail is a tag showing "100% polyester." Each sleeve has a multi-colored crossed tomahawk logo. Each sleeve also has a sewn-on numeral "7" in white outlined in black. On the outside tail is an NHL shield, and on the back of this shield - written in black marker by an unknown hand - is "98" for year and "2" for the set number. Also, on the back of the outside tail in back is a Nike Swoosh. The jersey has a fight strap. On the back of the jersey is a red, sewn-on name plate. In white, block sewn-on letters on the name plate is "CHELIOS." Below the player name is "7" in white with black trim. Late in his career, Chelios was asked about when he would stop playing, because he was well over forty-years old. His answer: "When no one else signs me." Thus, the jersey is a great memento for a player who loved hockey so much that he played until he was two years short of half-a-century.
