"61 Goes Into the Stands" Photo (PSA Type I)
Context makes this Type I 8x10" photo something special, as it depicts fans clamoring in the stands for the Roger Maris home run ball just sent their way - his record-breaking 61st in the 1961 season. Part of the Brown Brothers collection, their stamps are on the verso with pencil notations indicating the date - Oct 1, 1961 - and stating "Maris 61st home run going into right field stands, caught by Sal Durante," while also identifying the helpless Boston Red Sox outfielder as Lou Clinton. This would make a perfect bookend to the photo of Maris after hitting the ball, also available in this auction. PSA LOA.
