907 World Series Game 5 Clincher Full Ticket - Cubs Win 1st Title PSA GD 2

907 World Series Game 5 Clincher Full Ticket - Cubs Win 1st Title PSA GD 2

Displayed is an extremely rare find: a 1907 full ticket to the Game 5 in the World Series, a 2-0 win by the Chicago Cubs over the Detroit Tigers that gave the Cubs their first-ever World Series Championship. The game was held at Detroit's Bennett Park. Winning pitcher Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown went the distance for the Cubs, the right-hander scattering seven hits. The losing pitcher was Detroit right-hander George Mullin, who also pitched a complete game, giving up seven hits. The Cubs scored a run in the opening inning as a Harry Steinfeldt single drove in Jimmy Slagle, and the Cubs added the game's final run in the second inning as Slagle grounded out, driving in Johnny Evers from third base. Cubs Hall of Famers playing in this game: Mordecai Brown, Johnny Evers, and Joe Tinker. Player manager Frank Chance did not appear in this clinching game. Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance made up the Cubs' famous double play combination, and third baseman Harry Steinfeldt was the fourth member of Chicago's famed Million Dollar Infield." Hall of Famers playing for Detroit in the 1907 World Series Game 5: Ty Cobb, and Sam Crawford. The Tigers' player-manager, Hugh Jennings, did not play in this game. The Cubs went on to win the World Series in the next season as well (1908) and then did not win another World Series until 2016. The offered ticket was a $2.00 ducat that had "World's Championship Series" and "2" machine printed on it. The full ticket is punched but not cancelled, as there is no 'Canceled" or "CXL" on the PSA slab. Thus, the ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded "FULL GOOD 2."
