989 Ken Griffey Jr. Major League Debut Ticket Stub PSA EX-MT 6 (Pop 1 of 1 - Highest Graded!)

Here is a ticket stub representing great baseball history. Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. made his Major League debut on April 3, 1989, when he batted second and played center field for the Seattle Mariners in their Opening Night game against the Athletics in Oakland. But the story behind his debut goes back even farther. His dad, Ken Griffey Sr., was a first-rate major league player, who in 19 MLB seasons hit .294 while playing with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, and Seattle Mariners. Both father and son grew up in the small town of Donora, Pa, a tiny hamlet that also produced Hall of Famer great Stan Musial, who knew the grandfather of Ken Griffey Jr. So, there was intriguing history behind Ken Griffey Jr. even before he played his first MLB game, a debut in which in his first at-bat he almost socked a home run to left-center, winding up with a double, going 1-for-3 for the game, won by Oakland, 3-2. For his lifetime, Ken Jr. hit 630 home runs, and he is one of only three players in baseball history who both won at least 10 Gold Gloves and hit over 500 homers - the others being Willie Mays and Mike Schmidt. When Ken Griffey Jr. was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2016, he received a amazing 99.32% of the vote, a total only surpassed by Mario Rivera's 100% in 2019. On August 31, 1990, Junior and Senior Griffey played together in a game for Seattle, the first time in MLB history that a father and son played for the same team in the same game. Senior and Junior batted second and third in respectively, and each had a hit that day. The offered ticket stub is encapsulated and graded by PSA EX-MT 6. It has a Pop 1 of 1, the highest graded example.
